On Sunday 13th November Hexham's Mayor Derek Kennedy mentioned Hexham's twin towns at the Remembrance service at the town's war memorial, saying:
"To the people of our twin towns of Noyon, France and Metzingen, Germany, I send you a message of peace and friendship from Hexham. We are holding a peace walk in unison with Metzingen and Noyon to celebrate a future of constructive dialogue.
We all suffered in catastrophic conflicts as beautiful Europe was destroyed with huge human losses in the last century. Hexham is a happy and peaceful town and we send our love to you.
We have Ukrainian refugees in our town as we support them during the brutal invasion of their nation.
Peace is fragile and it needs nurturing, with you by our side we will do our best to prosper. Remembrance Sunday is a vital time to reflect our history and contemplate our joint future."
