![]() HEXHAM TOWN TWINNING VISIT
TO NOYON IN FRANCE Hexham Town Twinning Committee can now confirm the dates of our next visit to Noyon, 26-29 August 2022, the last date being the end of August bank holiday in the UK. Please join us! We are inviting those interested in travelling to let us know - click here and send us a message. While plans are subject to change, we are proceeding on the basis of cautious optimism. Images, left, © PMRMaeyaert via Creative Commons; right, © Ville de Noyon |
Travel to Noyon by coach via south coast ferry or the Channel Tunnel. The travel costs are expected to be around £210 per adult, depending on numbers travelling. We estimate the travel costs for young people and children to be no more than £100 per individual. The minimum age for an unac-companied young person is 16 years. Accommodation is provided by our French hosts in their own houses or apartments. Once the Committee is aware of exact numbers travelling, we will be able to calculate costs per person, at which point you will be requested to complete an application form and submit a deposit. Please indicate if you intend to travel by coach or not. If you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Language Sessions in Hexham
![]() GERMAN CONVERSATION
Face-to-face conversation: fortnightly at 12pm in Caffè Nero, Fore Street, Hexham, with Edith, at a table on the first floor. Next session 13th May, please write to Carola through the contact page. Our German fortnightly conversation group on Zoom has members from both Hexham and Metzingen, and is meeting on Thursday evenings at 7pm UK time, the next session is 19th May 2022, to chat both in German and in English. If you’d be interested in joining in, please contact Carola as above. For the main session we chat in small groups, so that conversation can be spontaneous, first in one language and then in the other. In the second half, it’s a free for all – one group, any language! The groups vary from session to session, so that everyone has a chance to get to know everyone else, and all standards of German and English are welcome – everyone is an expert in at least one of them. There are no set topics – this is informal chat and is an ideal way to keep in touch with people whom we know and to meet others. It has been really interesting to compare our lives over this last year, and Brexit has been mentioned, but so have all the other things that we might talk about. ![]() FRENCH CONVERSATION
We are meeting via Zoom for fortnightly informal French conversation. Next session is 8pm on Wednesday 25th May 2022. We usually have representatives from Noyon joining us. If you wish to join in, please write to Gerry through the contact page. The discussion group is very informal and is more of a chat. We have no preset discussion topics and to date have discussed, inevitably, the pandemic and government responses, but also films, the weather, holidays, Netflix series, and much more. On average we have about 8/10 attending with an equal split between members from Noyon and Hexham. We use break-out groups to create smaller groups of four. The level of French spoken is varied, with some speaking little, if any, but happy to contribute in English. The same is true with our friends in Noyon, some of whom speak little English.
